They tried to seem professional, but acted like they were family, which in turn created a conflux of trust and mistrust in some coworkers. The management honestly felt very immature and childish at times, as well. That being said while working at Michaels it felt like there was a lot of favoritism towards specific coworkers. After a couple of months I learned the hard way that it wasn't, retail isn't enjoyable in any company. In the beginning I was excited to work at Michaels because I thought it would have been fun. I've been rambling on for too long now, but the fact of the matter is that michaels at its core is a decent company, - more. there have been countless occasions where there is not a single employee on the sales floor and the only visible worker in the entire store is the cashier. this paired with the fact that we're already working with a skeleton crew means that we're often horribly understaffed on our busiest days. my hours are terrible and keep fluctuating corporate will only designate so many hours to each store given their sales quotas, and if those quotas aren't met, then they'll cut TENS of hours from the store budget. i started my job at above minimum wage, was promised a raise, was lied to about getting said raise to keep me working there, and now i am AT minimum wage due to it being raised at the beginning of 2023. i am a professional getting paid the federally required minimum wage. daily i am very knowledgeable about what i do, and a lot of the time, it is genuinely hard work. i handle artwork, build frames, cut glass, etc. The pay is abysmal and the management is lackluster. i have a good relationship with all of my colleagues and i like what michaels represents as a company. i help cashier and whatnot sometimes and that's really not too bad either, especially since the store is rarely super busy. i get to work with my hands and be creative while doing so. being an artsy person working in an arts store and being able to create custom designs is wonderful. I've been a custom framer at michaels for well over a year now and i really like it. the manger would schedule weekends off for themselves and have the part time employees working every weekend.no employee except for the manager keeps a position in framing for long because of how horrible the job is. asking to change the schedule was like pulling teeth. scheduling was done horribly, left you with no free time and you could be scheduled every day for eight days straight, for a part time position. customers suck as well, often rude and yell pretty often. all the other managers talk about you behind your back. management sucks, the frame manager yells at their employees for not getting enough work done yet we are not fully trained and expected to get so much work done when youre the only one there balancing production and needy customer. you have to multitask and deal with multiple customers at a time with no help. you are left alone on your first shift and are scheduled alone during almost every shift. ![]() you are hardly trained and then yelled at when you don’t get everything done on time with no guidance. work is so much for so little pay, job is stressful and you are way overworked. Job pays horrible, could make more down the street at any other store that is entry level.
